...and even lets you compare your choices on the fly!
With all the great web designs and snazzy-looking fonts out there these days, do you ever wish you could quickly test drive a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes without having to create a whole web page just to see what they'll look like?
Well, here's a very simple yet powerful secret that we've been using for a while now and we love it. It's called Typetester. This nifty tool allows you to perform side-by-side comparisons of a whole range of fonts and colors and to easily fine tune the details until you get everything exactly the way you want them.
Then, once you've discovered the perfect font with the perfect color on the perfect background, Voilà ! ...it gives you ready-made code to insert into your web page or CSS file. And, as you can see in the screenshot below, it's all neatly packaged into a simple and intuitive web-based interface.
Since not every computer comes with the full range of fonts installed, the fonts are grouped by Web Safe (meaning everyone has them installed), Win Default and Mac Default. This way you can be sure the font is compatible with your target audience and (if you're a web developer) you can do some cross-browser scripting so every user gets the best experience on your site.
Just to be sure you don't overlook the power of this simple looking tool, check out this list variables that you can dynamically alter and test in real time;
- font size
- font color
- background color
- decoration
- word spacing
- alignment
- tracking
- leading
- as well as specifying your own fonts.
As you make your tweaks, the tool will show you how each of your adjustments will look as regular text, bolded text, italicized, and several other variations. Once you've found the perfect font for your site, just click the Get CSS for... link in the upper bar of the interface, cut and paste it into your CSS file and you're good to go. You can even click the most wanted link to see the fonts most popular with other webmasters.
Of course we all know that the perfect font with the perfect size and the perfect color won't help you rank better, but it sure can help you sell better! Because, after all, your web pages only get a split second to make a good first impression.
Enough talk already, follow this link—go have some fun ;-) http://typetester.maratz.com/
