By now you've read the two previous reports in this series and I suspect you're wanting to know how to go about implementing all of the great ideas that are spinning in your brain. We'll here you have it—the definitive 8 Week Plan to jump-start your Link Building Assembly Line. Talk's cheap, so let's get started!
Important note: As we mention in our Link Building Strategies report, it's important to avoid sudden inbound link count increases. Generally, you want to add links at a rate of no more than 5-7% of your overall incoming links per month.
For example, if your site currently has 400 incoming links, you'll want to limit the number of links you add in a month to between roughly 20 and 30.
As such, the program laid out here may be overly-agressive for some sites, and you may want to adapt it accordingly to add links at a slower pace. Some possible ways would be to submit fewer articles to article directories, or to spread the program out over four or six months (or more), as opposed to two.
Much of this has to do with the rate at which a site has traditionally added links. New sites can get away with adding links faster, since they haven't yet established a pattern of link growth. Also, sites which have already been adding links at a fast pace can continue to do so.
However, an established site which has traditionally added links slowly will not want to exceed that 5-7% per month rule.
Week 1
Step 1: Submit your site to DMOZ, Yahoo Directory, and Microsoft bCentral.
Total cost: $348 ($299 for Yahoo, $49 for Microsoft bCentral)
Total links: You'll gain one link from DMOZ, although large sites with multiple categories can sometimes gain multiple listings. For instance, WebMD.com has more than 20 DMOZ listings for different diseases. Keep in mind that it can take a very long time to get listed in DMOZ.
You'll gain up to six links from Yahoo Directory, including listings in Yahoo Canada, Yahoo UK, Yahoo India, Yahoo Australia and New Zealand, Yahoo Singapore, and others. Listings in Yahoo's international directories is not guaranteed, but happens in most cases.
You'll gain up to 15 links from Microsoft bCentral, depending on if you use their business card personal web page service. bCentral also allows a fair amount of leeway when it comes to choosing the anchor text of your links, which is a nice feature.
You'll gain anywhere from 3 links to 22 links (possibly more) and they'll be spread out, coming from three unique domains, which is good.
Step 2: Write an article related to your industry and submit it to each of the article directories in our Directory Master chart.
Total cost: $0 (not counting possibly having to pay a writer to write the article for you)
Total links: You'll gain 10 links, plus any additional links that result from your article being reprinted by other sites. Depending on how popular your article becomes, you could easily end up with 100 or more additional links via reprints. Bear in mind that such links tend to build up slowly over time. This is actually a good thing–it means that you can worry less about tripping any search engine filters that might otherwise penalize your site for adding links too fast.
You'll gain anywhere from a minimum of 10 links to possibly hundreds; and all coming from at least 10 unique domains.
Step 3: Send out a press release through PRWeb Direct.
Total cost: $119 if you plan to write the press release yourself. This price includes distribution of your press release through a number of different venues as well as a review and consultation. If you want them to write your press release for you, it's an additional $299.
Total links: 2 guaranteed links (on prweb.com and emediawire.com). Also, your press release will be distributed through a number of different venues including Google News and Yahoo News and, if interesting enough, will often be reprinted on other sites. Some press releases get hundreds of links this way.
You'll gain anywhere from 2 links to hundreds, coming from at least 2 unique domains (and likely many more). Cost is anywhere from $119 to $418, depending on if you write the press release yourself or hire their professional services.
Step 4: Find a high PageRank, topically-related site to purchase a link from. While this can easily be done through link brokers like text-link-ads.com, linkadage.com, and textlinkbrokers.com, there can be drawbacks as we mentioned in the buying links report immediately preceding this report.
Although it's more work, it's generally a good idea to create your own relationships with the sites you're buying links from and to arrange a Presell page on their site if at all possible. And, of course, if you can get the link for free in exchange for an article, that's even better.
Total cost: Generally about $50 to $100 a month for a PageRank 6 or 7 link.
Total links: Usually one, unless you can arrange a Presell page in which case you can add several links yourself to that page. Avoid sites that are selling run-of-site (ROS) links as that might just lead to an expensive ranking penalty.
You'll gain usually one to five links from a single high PageRank page on a single domain. Going rate is typically $50 to $100 a month.
Congratulations!
By the end of week one, you've set into motion a gain of anywhere from 16 to several hundred links to your site. Remember to expect that many of these links will appear gradually, over time, as directories get around to adding you and as other sites syndicate your content. Nevertheless, during this first week you'll have completed laying your foundation for a potentially huge number of links.
In addition, you'll have completed the hardest and most expensive portion of your work. While it's true that you'll have spent roughly $800–$900 to jump start your link building efforts, you can also expect that the following weeks will be much less taxing to the pocketbook.
Week 2

Beyond Week 8
Now that you've completed the hard part of launching your link building campaign, there's every reason to continue writing articles and periodic press releases. Doing so will exponentially increase the effectiveness of your site's up-and-running link building assembly line.
Granted, you've incurred some costs, but before you say "ouch!" put it into perspective. $2000—$3000 is considered by most marketing professionals to be only a modest initial advertising spend for any new venture. In reality, a single print-ad in a glossy magazine can easily cost ten times that amount. So be sure to frame the costs against what otherwise might be realistically expected in the analogue world of print media and brick-n-mortar businesses.
As to ongoing costs, expect to absorb the monthly fees for your paid links as long as they appear to be significantly contributing toward your site's ranking success. Also, some of the directories you've submitted to are annual fee based, while others are just a one time only charge.
Bear in mind this link-building campaign lays the foundation for all of your future success. Your next step is to build a solid business atop of this foundation while integrating and incorporating all of the link-building tools, techniques, and strategies at your disposal. In doing so, you'll want to familiarize yourself with the entire arsenal:

In the end, link-building is about having a great site that attracts links on its own, coupled with your own flair for marketing and promoting your business. This includes the development of win-win relationships with other businesses in industries related to yours.
The program outlined above will give you a GREAT start. But once begun, you'll find that link-building is a ongoing, dynamic and creative process—and one that is more likely than anything else to secure your place at the top of the search engines for the long-term.
